Default stock carving

I started carving late last fall. My goal was to learn to carve oak leaves and acorns and put them on several guns I stocked years ago. I started with a Dremel and diamond burs as I already had them on hand for my stone carving. After a couple of practice pieces I realized I needed a Turbo Carver and bought one. What a difference! A couple more practice pieces and I was ready to do a stock. I didn't want to use a nice shotgun stock for a guinea pig so I made a stock for my crossbow just for the purpose of carving. The stock took me all of Jan. and Feb. I made it from scratch and don't have many power tools. The carving took me 3 weeks and here is what I ended up with. I made a 1000 mistakes, but learned a lot.

Looks great, Gary. I really like that oak leaf pattern, and it looks like a pro job to me.

Beuatiful work! I keep thinking about getting into gun stock carving, but never get 'round to it. Are you planning other designs, such as fish scale or basket weave? Mike

I've seen the basket weave and fish scales but I think I'll stick to the oak leaves. I'm an oak leaf and acorn junkie! Gary

Your goal was to learn to carve oak leaves and acorns.
You did. You certainly did.

You show up at a Gun Show with that work, you will get more orders than there are hours left in your life. Plus, you can cost off your tools.

I have done 5 or 6 gun stocks and thought about displaying at gun shows but haven't yet... I did wonder about the demand through.
I have 3 I need to finish up... maybe I will take them and display them to see.

Well done. I have carved on some of my stocks but have not been willing to try it on some one else’s stock.

Well done. I have a rifle stock that needs checkering but I'm not brave enough to try it.
