Default Stepping out of the box

Hey guys I just thought I would share this with you. Just in case there are some of you out there that are the same as I was. I have been carving now for about eight years and when I started I started with woodspirits. For eight years I have carved a few Santa's but mainly woodspirits. I am very comfortable doing them and I am never nervous how they are going to turn out because I could probably carve them in my sleep. It has got to the point where I no longer draw the carving before I start I just go for it and how they turn out is the way it is. But recently I have challenged myself a little more and when the lady wanted the Greenman I thought to myself why not, Colin you can do it. Was I nervous? you bet I was. This was a 100 year old tree in her residence that I could have screwed up. I was extreamly nervous but once I make up my mind about something I do it. Not only am I compleatly confindent about what I am doing now it is so much fun. I guess I would relate it to going to work. You go to the same job every day and do the same thing sometimes it gets a little mundane. Then all of a sudden you change jobs you have a new challenge and its exciting. Well that is the way I am at the moment I have started something new and I love it. So I invite you that are scared of starting something different to try it you will be suprised how well you do with the right attitude.
Colin

Thanks Colin I just did the same thing with starting to learn carving female faces, already at a point where I am comfortable at doing woodspirits. I wasn't exactly scared but that was because no one other then ever had to see this piece if it didn't turn out I would just say nothing and have a nice warm fire Wink. In your case it is in a 100 year old tree, not to mention in someones yard which would be alot different. I know ya can do it and you'll learn more from every new try at anything ya do, your a great carver.

Hi Colin,

I think you summed it all when you said "the right attitude." It's the difference between success and failure. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Colin for the complement, LOL I had forgot all about that, you did think I was a girl for a while. I am also not sure where that came from I had a laugh over it though.
