Default Static Cling Issue

I know this may sound weird but lately when carving basswood the chips seem to cling to me. I wear a leather apron when I carve but the chips stick to the apron, my glove and anywhere else that may come in contact with them. I carve in the basement and thought it might be a dry air issue in the house this time of year. However the humidity readings in the basement are fine. I even tried a static spray and dryer sheets to try and solve the problem but nothing works. The chips seem to always be in the way when carving. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Same here. Really bad in Colorado. Our humidity is really low. I use those Dryer Fabric Softener Sheets. When they are new they feel waxy. I save some that have been thru the dryer. Not as much residue. Wipe your hands on it, as well as your tools and it really cuts the static. I don't know about the apron but what have you got to lose.

Yep, Lynn, but it is hard wearing those chips to bed.

After I've finished a carving session I tend to shed chips for about two hours.

I got chewed out because my spouse found them in the dryer lint trap....

They even get into my socks!

Shawn...you think its dry there? It's so dry here......"how dry is it?" I have to tell you, its so dry the chips will chase you out the door of the shop, I have to slam the door shut real fast and then, I have to remove all the dead chips that stuck to the door because they were moving so fast..........!

LOL, I would also say stop complaining, Try some Black Walnut thats fully seasoned it really clings. Them chips get every where I even found them in my wallet on and off in my shoes, bed, hair, anywhere they can get it seems.

I never really thought of it as a problem so I don't know what to say to help stop it, other then just like it or lump it.

Know what you mean about following you everywhere and finding them in weird places. We were at the store one day at the checkout and I pulled out m wallet and the money out to hand to the cashier and chips popped out. LOL!!!

My hubby and I were busting up laughing and the girl was just looking at us like okay. I said sorry we are wood carvers. She just smirked and said oh okay. I guess it's one of those insiders things, have to be a chipper, to be able to get it. LOL

Hubby and I thought it was amusing.
