| | State of Woodcarving Post Hello everyone,
I've removed, for the time being, the post on the State of Woodcarving Today. It was posted under questionable circumstances without WCI permission. I know I posted to it--but after looking at it in greater detail and talking to other members of the Fox Chapel team--we decided to remove the post.

I think the key word is "unknowingly". Other than that, nothing's wrong with it. I thought it could be a good discussion too.

| | Re: State of Woodcarving Post Feel free to start a new thread about the state of woodworking--I just wanted to go on the record saying that we don't want people "glenning" or picking through the best of the message board for their personal gain! The circumstances were weird--a form letter cut and pasted into the forum--a request that information be e-mailed directly rather than posted in the forum--and the ambigiousness of how the information would be used. Everything you post on the forum is still yours--and you should have a say in how it's used.
I've seen a deep divide form in different forums over something like this...and I don't want it to happen here. The way I feel about it is that if someone wants to quote the message board for their own personal gain, they should get permission not only from Fox Chapel and Wood Carving Illustrated, but also from the people who would be quoted!
Does that make sense?

| | Re: State of Woodcarving Post Makes perfect sense to me and even if it didn't, Fox Chapel makes the rules and we follow them and so far FC has been real easy about making rules. |

| | Re: State of Woodcarving Post I saw the message on another site and I'm sure she has posted on many
other sites...I think most of us caught on. I am interested to find out what other carvers are saying.

| | Re: State of Woodcarving Post Just put in a disclaimer that says something to the effect of none of this material can be reprinted or published in any media without permission from the owner!
That's what I'd do! In fact, I'm working about some wording on this for the whole forum--to protect everyone!

| | Re: State of Woodcarving Post Maybe the person has "Gleaned" what they wanted from the posts already.
One of the things that is wrong in this world is sue happy people, wanting someting for nothing and not wanting to share or help out.
If I did care on someone reprinting what I posted or say, then I wouldn't have posted my comments.
One of the things I like about the people on this board is their willingness to help others. Aren't we all a little like the person who posted the original post in "Gleaning" whatever we can? YES, we are or we wouldn't be posting.
Just my take on the subject for whatever it is worth! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
