Default Starting A Guild or Club

I have been thinking about starting a Club of sorts here on the shore and looking for some advice. I may try to start up a business in one of the local towns and include a carvers guild. We all live out here around the Chesapeake Bay surrounded by cornfields and rivers and have no place to get together and share. When ever you need to get a tool to finish a job you have to order it and wait a couple weeks. This way they will have a place to shop for tools, take lessons, or just hang around and chat.

Default Re: Starting A Guild or Club

We have a club in my hometown. Our recreation center used to offer carving classes in the fall & spring semester, but some of us wanted to carve year round so we made arrangements to meet at the local senior center every Thursday night 7-9pm. We pay $25 a year to join and we give the senior center 300-400 every year for the use. We have purchased a club sharpening system and several tools with some extra. It's pretty loose but a great place to share ideas and carve. Once a year we try to round up some new people and have a beginners class to keep the group growing.
Good luck with your idea. I think having a group really helps keep people engaged and interested.
