Default Starting granddaughters portrait

Hi all, just started today, haven't done any carving just taking measurements and getting things lined up. I had another picture of her with short hair the ear was covered by her hair but she wouldn't let me off the hook so I have to carve the ear. I started by getting the picture where I wanted it, then I made that top line 1/2 " above the top of the hair. I took the measurements for the brow, eyes nose and chin and ear from that line, using calapers. I cut the face out of the pictures and used them as a template, now I can start to get the face angle. Whan you start carving you will carve most of the lines off so you have to have refrance points so you can put them back. Well thats it for now, I'll post againnwhen I get a little futher along.

I have noticed family requests will always present you with the most challenges. but I like how you are showing the prep. it is good for novices like me so I can get an idea how to do something that detailed where precision would be important

Wow, what an intense project. I took a "realism" class from Fred Cogelow last June and it is really a challenge. Good luck with the project, and please post photos when you get it finished.

Leavyc wow,his work is amazing, the boy reading the book he done for the library. (spelling ) all his work. If you took a class from him you must be pretty good yourself.
