I just did another Carving on a Hinkle Rocking chair this time the section wanted a Danish Matte a dark dark stain, I was quite apprehensive at first, I normally carve them 1/8 to 3/16 deep and I paint it so you can make out the details, I have never stained a carving let alone Ash. but I was impressed the stain actually made the carving stand out and look really well.
