Default Spoon holding

Aye folks
Was wondering how the other spoon carcers hold there spoons when making them?
Do you use a vice or hand hold them?
Im havin a wee problem trying to put some detail on the spoons I make because I just hold them in my hand while working on them with the knife (yes I weare a glove)
So what do others use?
Looking forward to your answers
Cheers
AL

If I'm just carving in my armchair, I hold it in my left hand. That's probably what I do most of the time. When I'm having leverage trouble holding it, though, I work on a table, with the spoon on a piece of leather. If I've got a delicate part that needs support on the side that will be against the table, I put a folded up cloth, or sometimes even a cushion under it. Once I was watching Mike Davies carve, and he took off an extra shirt, folded it up & put it under the spoon as he worked on the back side of it.

I've never run into a need for anything more complicated than either of those positions. So far.

I just hold it in my hand.

However several years back I ran across this "knee vise" that looks like it would be worth making....someday.

The guy who made this posted a couple other novel devices over at PaleoPlanet
