Default SPOON Challenge!!!

Carve a working spoon.. 10-12" long, one that your grandma would be proud to use while stirring up that cake batter. Make it functional and don't be afraid to be a little creative.

Who's in? (Scooter, how about giving this a shot).

I've already got my blank cut..

HuzzaH! I win I am already working on one from a piece of 200+ year old Black Ash, this is a cookie mixing spoon we have a recipe from my great grandma that is so thick it breaks all the spoons, we have broken many Oak spoons ones we bought even tried the bamboo spoons and they also break.

I think Schwert and Cliff would also put a spoon into this? Maybe we all should petition BobD to try and get a spoon carving section put up?

Would you believe that's a 4 inch quarter?

No huh? Well, it is a functional spoon--it's a pin!

Carved a celtic knot for the first time and it's my first spoon, too.

Thanks Carl. It's 3 inches long, made of Basswood with several coats of Clear Satin Minwax Wipe-on Poly. Then a coat of Johnson's Paste Wax. The pattern is in "Wodcarving with Rick Butz" by Rick and Ellen Butz. I reduced the pattern from 9 inches to 3 inches on the copier.

Cool spoon Bob. I think carving the braided section is trickier than one thinks. You know we expect you to participate in the batter spoon challenge now.

Carl, having BobD put a spoon carving section in would be cool, if not too much trouble for him. It's something everyone can do, no matter what their level, so there might be a bunch of interest.

Plus it's like 100% reward you get carving experience and you make something you can use easy takes very little materials and all you need is a gouge or hook knife and a straight knife.
