Question spiral frame

Some time ago i read in a carving book a formula for carving a spiral on plain picture frames to add character and now i can't remember it . I think it was something like rope molding . Like what ever the thickness of the wood was determined the size of the spiral

You could always go down to Lowes or Home Depot and take a piece of rope, measure it's diameter, and then measure the length it takes for one strand to go completely around. That would give you a ratio...something like for each half inch in diameter, the spiral takes 3 inches to come back around - or whatever the actual measurements. This would give you a ratio to draw your pattern.
