Source for Acanthus leaf ect designs ??

I am looking for a good source to find lots of acanthus leaf designs and those nice swirly plant type designs that look good in corners etc... Anyone know of a book or place to find lots of these??

Lora Irish has books and patterns available on-line. Woodcarving Patterns, Classic Carving Patterns Online, Wood Carving Designs & Patterns Online

Norsk Woodworks also sells patterns:
Norsk Wood Works -- Norwegian Wood Carvers and Carving Woods

If you can find the book by Johan Amrud, it's full of patterns. Hard to find, out of print, and expensive.

I've been accumlating my own collection of acanthus patterns and projects. If there's something specific you'd like, let me know. Maybe I can help you.

Another book you might want to look into is Manual Of Traditional Woodcarving . I've used it many times over the years. Great resource.

I have the Ian Agrell DVD and I have a video casette on carving Acanthus by Hans Sandom.
I think that one can learn a lot from both of them.

If you cannot get to an instructor than I think DVD and videos are great...even if sometimes there is little more than time spent just watching the carver carve.

I have not seen the Norsk Wood DVD but now that I know it exists I'm sure that I will eventually buy it.
Again, DVDs and videos are pretty small investments over a carving carrier when you stop to think about how much can easily be spent on tools, equipment, books and wood.

isn't that the same kind of leaves that are in the traditional leather working pattern books? the ones by al stohlman? i dunno but they sure have nice looking border patterns in the saddle and holster ones... just a thought .
