Default Sorby ProEdge.

I decided to spend some money, not an easy decsion for a Scotsman!

Settled on the Robert Sorby Pro Edge. When it arrived its a sturdy well put together machine.

BUT, the belt and wheels rotate towards you. i.e. from the top to the botton turn.

Checked with the supplier and he confirmed this was the way it should turn.

Surely this is the opposite way most sharpners turn?
Or is my solo brain cell letting me down again.

if you dont like the rotation, turn it around and mount it on the wall with belt comming towards you, that will reverse direction

John, I don't own a Sorby, but do have a few sharpeners and some turn down from the front and some turn up. Either way is no more or less desireable or safe. Just be sure you are fully aware of which rotation you are dealing with. My personal preference is DOWN rotation when viewed from the front. That way I can see the sharpened or polished edge without turning the blade over.

Just a matter of personal preference I suppose.

Me too Al. All my machines turn towards you and down. I've seen too many accidents were in a moment of forgetfulness or someone didn't realize a particular machine turns the opposite way a "grinder" usually turns causes some scary moments. Grabs that chisel/knife whatever and turns it into a dandy projectile. Seen more than a few stick nicely into a wall or ceiling. Just glad someone's face wasn't in the way when it happened.
Its a no brainer to have them change directions,,but I don't want a no brainer with a chisel sticking in it for a momentary lapse or forgetfulness.
And still,,my chisels remain sharp.

Its a bit of a bummer really. I've stuck a notice on the machine and can just hope a senior moment does n't over come me.
