I got my site updated last night with some new stuff, if anyone wants to take a look-see. I'd love to hear what any of you think, good or bad. I'm in a sort of carving funk, and it would really help me to get others' thoughts and input on what I'm doing. Thanks:-) Teri

Hi Teri! I took a look at your site and girl, you've got no reason to be in a carving funk. So imaginative....so original....they are all just delightful! Keep up the good work! ~ Joy

Teri, just returned from your website. Amazing! Your ability to continue the expansion of your unique style is incredible. There is nothing unusual about being a good artist, in developing a product that is immediately recognizable as yours. But very few, in any medium, develop a methodology that is so unusual that it becomes a style of its own. Every time I look at your carvings I come away in wonder. Literally, wondering how a carving with such a simple subject opens a viewer's imagination to such a large world? I think a testimonial to your ability is the fact that so few attempt to carve in the "Teri Embry Style". I have seen a few. However, they have all been copies, not really of your style, but of your pieces, with a few variations. Enjoyed the journey provided by viewing your gallery. |

Teri, beautiful web site and gorgeous Santas. The details are incredible. If you are in a funk, why not carve something different....try a new face or better yet carve something that is not a Santa. I would love to see one of your great books as a "storybook" with animals coming out of it. Whatever you do will be fantastic....so maybe it is time to have fun. |

Teri, I'm so happy to see you back to carving, obviously your 'carving funk' hasn't effected your carving, painting or creativity one little bit! Great work, as always!! Deborah</IMG> |

Good to see your posting again Teri. When I saw it I thought "please don't let it be an old one somebody dug up." I always love to see your carvings and posts. I seem to remember the last time you had a "carving funk" it wasn't very long and you went on a carving binge. Creativity at your level needs an occassional rest to renew it's vigor.

Teri - I have admired your work since first seeing it on the cover of the other Carving Magazine. Although I admire your carving - your design sense and painting are what capture my heart and imagination. I especially love when you work in the night tones of deep purples and blues with the warmer colors and whites as accents. Checked out your new stuff and I really like Winter Night. I think you manage to capture perfectly that vision for Christmas of peacefulness, tranquility, and hope that we all want Christmas to be . . . in contrast to the madness of our running around and trying buy the perfect gift, and prepare the perfect meals, and get it all done in time. I can see where you might get to a point where you feel locked into and no longer inspired by the classic Terri Embrey style. Kind of like when an actor starts getting the same roles over & over from typecasting. Perhaps just for fun you need to break away from Santa and explore another subject? Though I agree that you've extended your vision beautifully to a variety of placements, when you get down to it they are all Santa in various settings. I don't know if professionally you can completely break away if your income is dependent on this style and subject, but doing something totally different for fun may be what you need to reconnect with your muse and get inspired - and this may lead to some new way to extend your style and subject even further than you have. Or perhaps you find something new and different to try that is related to the style and themes but gives you a new fresh way to come at it. In any case, PLEASE don't lose heart. We all go through dry spells and you've managed to go so far and touch so many with your work. I want to see how you evolve for a long time to come. May you find the inspiration you need and the joy of the real spirit of Christmas you have so richly shared with us. Cheers! ChuckT |
