Default Some what Nauticle

Here is a recent walking stick(cane) that I just finished.Only the face is complete.I still have to trim down the handle.I always cut the handles long in case I get a little creative.Anyway, I wanted to take on the ''old salt'' look because I have not tried it yet.The wood is mountain laurel and welcome your comments. Thanks,Davy

Love the "salty" old-timer look that you've come up with in this stick. That's a great idea for a theme. Now, that handle is something else and the more that I look at it, the more sea sick I become!

I also use a lot of mountain laurel when I can find it straight enough for a stick or cane and when I do find it straight enough there seems to be a lot of it. Seems like the straight stuff grows mostly in "pockets" around here. (???)

Sure would like to see what you come up with for the handle when finished but I'm sure that some idea will pop up.

This may sound wierd but when I search for my walking sticks I don't look for the normal straight stick. If it has a good hook to the handle and a couple of twist and turns on the way down I am happy.Mountain laurel is very strong so it doesn't really need to be straight. There is something about this wood that I love carving.I will post the results and a full picture of this stick because it has a great bow to it before it straightens out at the bottom. Thanks for your comments

Looks like a salty old Captain, to me! Well done, the stick is unique and shall be a prized posession of some lucky sailor in need of a crutch!
