So what's in your tool box?

Just as you can never be too rich or too good looking, you probably can never have too many tools! At least that's what the Cap'n tells his wife.

Just out of curiousity, what's in your tool box, forum readers? How long have you been carving? And what's the next tool you lust for?

It isn't just a lust for tools, it's a lust for the space they need. I have a radial arm saw and would really like to have a good table saw, but they take a lot of room to leave set up and ready to go. I have the usual drill press, and bench belt sander, a new Jet oscillating drum sander (a real winner!), a band saw, scroll saw and a new Dremel spiral saw set up with the router base and circle cutter. That's a dream for removing background on relief carvings and cutting the circle for my ladies hand mirror. My next realistic acquisition will be a good router table, since I can make room for that next to my miter saw. The rest of the tools are grinders and sharpeners, including the Tormek sharpener. I've been carving for several years, after my wife got me started by giving me the starter tools and lessons for Christmas. The best gift I've ever had!

Mighty BIG tool box you have there Mike.

My tools are scattered all over the place. My last purchase was a set of Five Flexcut gouges and love them. Use them a lot since the little bride has me carving dove and humming bird pins to wear. Asked her how many can one woman wear at a time and she answered.'As many tools as a man can use at a time!' Wear in the sam hill did she hear that! :

Anyways, several tools come to mind and a little trip to woodcraft in Tulsa OK, seems to be my fix this month. After all, the little bride wants to go to the scrapbook stores.HEHEHE.
Really Capt' C, There are way to many tools I want and hopefully will get,to list here.

Mike, was Just kidding and review your spoons and they are outstanding.

MD Sr., I would ditch that radial arm saw and get me a table saw so quick it would make your head swim. I have had both for many years, and though the RAS is incredibly flexible, the table saw is the work horse of any shop. It is a wonderful tool. Good luck!

I've got a fishing box with four drawers in the front and the top storage. It only holds my small palm tools tho and I seem to have 'collected' a few. Stubai, Pheil, Flexcut, Denny knives and gouges and some Bobby Thurman tools.

Full sized tools are Pheil and Flexcut and some strange ones I got off Ebay. I keep them in tool rolls separated by indoor and outdoor work so I keep the good ones good.

Oh yeah -- table saw, band saw, dewalt scrollsaw, foredom, dremel, sanders, drill press, drills, ect. ect. (my Dad was a building contractor so when he retired the collection migrated to my house. I really want a delta table saw but space is confining me as well.

I used to carry a 'tool box' loaded with knives, etc. and one day I realized that I only use one or two knives, so I got a small carrying case (leather)and it makes life easier. In the shop, I keep tool rolls for the chisels (Phiel) and a tool box with all the rest of the knives, v gouges, etc. Also in the shop: Band saw, lathe, joiner, drill press, and my four sharpening wheel system that I built. I am only allowed to use 1/2 of my single garage (sic) so I am maxed out. Big Al

well lets see now.....ummm here is a petrified apple core, and a, a a um not sure but it looks kind of like a dried bologna sandwich! Hey there is a mediocre santa ornament and a knife that need sharpening and HEY Look out! There's a snake in here!

In reference to carving tools, a flexcut knife, a home made knife, half a dozen palm tools, 8 or so full size tools, a wood burner, and a drawknife.

As for my general purpose tools... Well there is the cordless drill, and the sabre saw, and the sawzall, and the socket wrenches, and the soldering pen, and various other sundry tools OUTside the tool box. INside the toolbox... I stopped counting some time ago. But, if the toolbox fell on you foot, you would be in serious pain.

I need a tool chest. :

In my everyday carving box (today) there are (4) handmade knives, (1) 3/8' #3 palm gouge, (1) 3/8' #5 palm gouge, (1) 1/8' V-parting tool, (4) dockyard micro gouges, a pencil, a small strop, a nearly exausted tube of superglue, and a 1' x 1' piece of sandpaper.

It all fits into a 2 x 5 x 7-1/2' cedar cigar box.

If you wonder what good I can do with such a small piece of sandpaper, it isn't for sanding wood; as my tools move around in the box, they sharpen themselves.
