Default Smokey Mountain Woodcarvers Supply

I just got back from a week in Pigeon Forge, TN. That is about 20 miles from Townsend, TN where the world headquarters for the Smokey Mountain Woodcarvers is located. I went to the store twice and bought a bunch of basswood and some carving books. I have seen the SMWS advertising in WCI for several years but never did business with them. Terrific people! And yes, they are also wood carvers! I just wanted to encourage those carvers in the mid-south to send them some business because they are one of us!

Yes, they are good people. I've purchased from them a couple of times. Their tools come fairly sharp but not quite as sharp as Rick's. Their selection and Rick's have overlap but they each carry stuff that the other doesn't.

I'll be going there today on the way to the CCA seminars at Dollywood. I've been many times, and you're right, they are good people.

I have to agree with you all. I was just in their shop and I had a knife with a 'ding' in the blade with me. They not only sharpened it for me, but I got a free hour of instruction on how to sharpen properly !!! You can't beat that! I have read many books on sharpening , but haveing someone show you how personally really makes a difference!
I came home and set up a sharpening table with the same setup they have and I think I will do a lot better job sharpening now that I know how to do it!!

GeorgiaFred, why not give a short desciption of how your sharpening table is now setup along with the sharpening procedure?Smile
Always interesting to hear how other carvers do their sharpening.

Cheers.
