Default Slovakian Animated Wood Carving Exhibit

In Grove City, PA, north of Pittsburgh, is a place caled Slovak Folk Arts. Several years ago, their counterparts in Slovakia stated to build a large, animated exhibit of Slovakian life and culture. The shipped it in five sections over about 3 years and now it's complete (since 2005). It's powered by 6 Volvo windshield wiper motors. It's very impressive, with the detail and movement, including a wood carver!

I forgot to tell the story of the last photo. Four years ago, we hosted a foreign exchange student from Slovakia. She was a wonderful girl, friendly and always cheerful. She told us a lot of stories about their culture and one of them was the tradition of the boys pulling the girl's hair, hitting them with sticks, and throwing water on them! This didn't seem like a lot of fun for the girls, but it was a tradition and had some meaning. So there we were on Tuesday, looking at this exhibit, and there was the depiction of the story! It still doesn't look like fun for the girl. Mike

Pictures can't do this thing justice - you have to see this in person. Interestingly, the shop is run as a mission to help Slovakian Artists get a decent price for their wares and so help Slovakia develop economically. Very nice stuff!

I went on the website to see the whole thing. I blew the picture up to a larger size. What an incredible work of art! I will most likely go back to the sight again just to take in more.I would so love to see that in person. Thankyou for sharing this amazing carving.
