Default Silver Maple

Has anyone tried carving in silver maple? If so what are it's properties, carving wise?

i'll let you know in a few months-- ive take a limb from a silver maple tree from childhood home and plan to carve a coffee scoop-- no clue how it will work-- but im sure that in the archives there is a link to carving properties of different woods and i bet that silver maple isnt high on the list.

While I never carved it I can tell you that the wood is brittle and it breaks easily across the grain. I wouldn't try using it in any application what may get rough use.

Thanks, Chuck and Paul.

I ran a chisel cross grain on it and it appears to be soft and brittle at the same time!
Doesn't look like it would hold much detail.
