| | | Re: sharpening system I am not an electrician but, if you turn the motor 180 degrees so the spindle is on the opposite side (was on the right and now is on the left), it should be rotating in the opposite direction.
You may have to modify your design a bit but, perhaps this will help. Â*:-)

| | | Re: sharpening system I found this on induction motors: Â*'To make the motor turn backward, the capacitor must be reconnected so that the magnetic poles circle backward' http://howthingswork.virginia.edu/su...ric_motors.pdf.
I don't know the consequences of rewiring the capacitor in an induction motor. Â*It may cause the motor to overheat and probabily will void any warrenty. For liability sake, this is for information only. Â*The rewiring of electrical devices should be left to trained professionals with the proper safety equipment.
I hope this helps.

| | | Re: sharpening system I just turned mine around also to get the proper direction going. Found a web site with some simple directions for building an inexpensive sharpening set up which worked very well for me. Unfortunately I managed to lose all my bookmarks but will try to find it again. I'm not very good at figuring things out but this works terrific for me. Good luck.

| | Re: sharpening system I have reversed the direction of electric motors that could be reversed. Some cannot be reversed. It won't harm the reversible motor if it is done correctly. Unplug the motor. Open the place where the electric cord goes into the motor and you will see the poles with the wires attached to them. This is where you can do the reversing. I would recommend that a qualified electrician do this for you. It's not a pretty sight to see your motor burn up right after you plug it back in.

| | Re: sharpening system thank for the tips- the 180 degree suggetion sounds like the best way to go with some changes in design-
plain old ed's idea also has some merit i could bolt the device upside down under my work bench. |
