| I am a woodturner who is starting to carve on my work. I recently purchase a Fordom power system includeing the chisel hand piece. Looking at these chisels I wonder the best way to sharpen. Just with a diamond stone or on the grinder like the way I sharpen my turning tools?? TIA Joaz Hill Wood Turning by Joaz Hill Stonington, Maine |

I don't know much about them but I would go with a fine diamond stone and then a leather strop with your favorite compound. Dave |

I sharpen mine as Dave suggests but I use a fine grit waterstone in lieu of a diamond. I would be afraid that a grindstone would remove a lot of metal fast causing premature replacement.

argee with both the above.. what your looking for is a polished edge.. you should be able to place the cutting edge on a pcs of newspaper an see the reflection clearly... if the tool came sharpe all thats needed, is to be honed/buffed .. no shapeing required. a power buffer will do this pretty quickly..

Those blades are much like Flexcut blades and usually only need some honeing on a leather strop. Unless they get chipped I doubt that they will need to be worked on a stone at all. I have a set and put them into perminant wooden handles and they keep an edge just fine. I wasn't happy using the power handpiece on my Foredom that way. Just found it awkward. Bob
