| | Seminar suggestions? We just hosted Phil & Vicki Bishop last weekend for a super carving seminar. Our group would like to start hosting a seminar every year and thought maybe a "realistic" style carver would be good for next year. Does anyone have any suggestions or recomendations? The Bishop's will be tough act to follow and we hope to use them the following year. Our group is in central Kansas if that matters to any instructors you know of. I appreciate everyone's input - hopefully this is a thread that won't start a battle!

| | Re: Seminar suggestions? Vicki,
I love your Avatar! Didn't you display it and win at 2006 Davenport show? I agree with bbowers, you and Phil do put on a good carving session. I've gotten a lot good comments about the bowlegged cowboy I carved at Oct's class at Elk City. I've even placed 2nd at the Wichita Show and a monthly ribbon in our Guild. |

| | Re: Seminar suggestions? You might try Mark Gargac from this board! He does some fantastic looking realism carvings in bark as well as other wood.
Just a suggestion. |

| | Re: Seminar suggestions? Good idea--bringing in a good assortment of instructors is a great way to expand your carving expertise and keep carvers involved.
Barry,
Gerald Copeland (Kansas) is one of the better "realistic" instructors I've seen in the midwest--as well as Janet Cordell in Arkansas.
For caricatures, it's hard to beat Phil and VIckie...they're so innovative and what a great "two for" bargain for a workshop.
Debbe Edwards in Miami Ok is tops for realistic animals...and the list goes on.
When our club was in it's hay-day, we'd have someone in for a carving workshop about every three months. We don't have enough members left to meet the minimum number of participants, but I sure enjoy going to nearby clubs' carving workshops when I can. Not only do I get undivided time to carve, but I continue to meet some of the neatest carvers in the midwest!

| | Re: Seminar suggestions? Thanks VIcki,
Once I got out of school and went back to work full time, it got harder and harder to get away to carve. I'm lucky to get to a 2-3 day workshop. I've loved watching your carvings evolve....they are absolutely great!
I'll catch you again one of these days. Glad to see you here on this neat message board.
