I wish I had a place like that to go hang out and carve. That looks like loads of fun to me.

I agree with Don. I whish there was a place like that here in So Cal. I am also very interested in the carving stands that your students are using. I remembered seeing one in the post you did for Silver Dollar City. Would you be willing to share the plans for that stand or maybe sell them?

Nice work! I would love to see some pictures of the finished work! Great job! Feel free to come to Tennessee to teach a class. I would be first in line!

Boy, that looks like fun.
I think I'll stop what I'm working on and go find another log to start on.

i was fortunate enough to be in the class. james is a great carver-- i had never done anything like this- and laying out something in a log is very different than a roughout or even a bandsaw cutout- i have used mallet tools before but mine werent large enough for some of the roughin work i did. james was generous enough to loan us tools and his expertise. the catalpa logs had some hollow spots and splits that add to the interest. my basswood log has a small hollow that will be the ball on santas cap. i may carve some honey bees to look as they are flying out of this hole- ( i have bees). if you have the oppurtunity to take a class from james i recommend that you do that. i know that you will widen your scope of knowledge.

i feel that im in ok shape-- but let me tell you, standing all day and swinging a mallet-- does things to ur back you didnt know was possible.

james did sell the stand we were using for a nominal fee of $40. id hate to assemble it for that-- to say nothing of the design or the wood-- im sure he is going to make some changes in the future designs (my opinion)
