| | | Selling carvings OK a lame excuse to post a link There are alot of carvers interested in selling their work (or at least wanting to try) but don't know where or how. I came up with an idea last night while working on a relief of Sitting Bull, start an online classifieds board.
So while already owning several websites, I searched for a good looking classifieds program, loaded and set it up, and now there is a place for ANYONE to try and sell their carvings.
As I just finished working on it, there won't be much web traffic yet, but I will get it added to all the search engines (word of mouth doesn't hurt either ) and see if some us us might get lucky.
The classifieds site is free to use by anyone, just register, click on the category, Submit an Ad and fill in the blanks. Right now it only accepts one picture, I'm going to see about modifying the code when I have some time so users will be able to add several pictures. I also added several other categories which should eventually help drive more traffic to the site.
Here's the link http://www.extremedc.com/woodclass/index.php
If you need help using it, have suggestions...send me an email
Thanks |

| | | Re: Selling carvings Randy, what a great idea you have. There are many of us who might like to shop among the carving world folks and these classifieds are a perfect vehicle.
You might want to advertise it to the other carving boards/groups around the net....and perhaps get folks to link to it from their own sites.
Could also be a great place to hold 'fundraiser' auctions among carvers, when appropriate or necessary.
LOL...listen to me, rolling out ideas....but YOU get to do the work :-)
Good luck with it and keep us posted!

| | Re: Selling carvings Good ! I have seen a site, but can't remember where, that had carvings for sale by the artist..as I remember, not much activity and 'very' expensive' for what was there, so maybe this will be a little better....ok...now, how about a painting/prints section? And might as well ad chip carving, lets see what else? LOL |

| | | Re: Selling carvings I can add anything needed to the site, the extra categories will be added in a few minutes. As for the auction, I had thought about adding that too, but right now with no traffic, it wouldn't be worth anyone's trouble to list anything.
The site I added the classifieds to is an established site, I've been running it for several years so the classifieds should be hitting the search engines by next week.
I also received an email from Hi_Ho_Sliver, saying he was having a problem. Here are some quick instructions on setting up an account and posting ads:
First you need to register and sign in.
Click on the carving category, then a sub-category.
Next click on submit an ad. Give it a title, browse through your directory for the picture you want to add, enter you discription and click OK when you're done.
I haven't had a chance to look at the program code yet to modify it for more then one picture, but I thought it might be easier to just add a photo gallery that everyone could make their own gallery and upload more pictures to and then reference them in your ads.
Anymore ideas and suggestions are welcome, I'll get to them as soon as I can. I've been out of work for a few months and my wife found a good opportunity to make her honey-do list grow :'( |

| | Re: Selling carvings well I was able to write the ad, but when I tried to post a picture it said something about the pic being 1000x1000 ??, a real computer challenged woodcarver here! have no idea what that is all about...I just browse my pics and put them in..lol |

| | | Re: Selling carvings The size of the picture can be 1000x1000 pixels and 500000 bytes in size. If your picture is larger then that, you will need to reduce its size. |

| | | Re: Selling carvings I solved the image problem, I added a small program that will resize you picture. The link for the program is on the Classifieds page.
To use it:
Click on the 'Image Resizer' link
Browse through your computer, find the picture you want to change the size of.
Click on 'Upload Photo' Depending on the actual size of your picture, uploading may take awhile. When this program is finished, your re-sized picture will appear Right click on the image and then click 'Save As' to resave it back to your computer (don't forget to rename it!) |

| | | Re: Selling carvings Photo Album added http://www.extremedc.com/woodclass/copper//index.php
Carvers Classifieds Photo Album
1. Register (the name you register with will be the name of your album
2. Login
3. Click on 'Albums'
4. 'Select category' *My gallery*
5. Click New Then enter your User name
6. Click 'Apply modifications'
Now your album is ready to use
Click on 'Upload picture' to upload a picture (also add title and description)
Repeat for each picture you wish to upload.
This program will automaticly create a 'thumbnail' of your picture on your 'home' gallery page.
I think I gave all users enough room for a large amount of pictures. If you get an error saying there is not enough room, email me and I can give you more!
Under each full size picture is a 'URL' copy and paste this into your classified ads to link your ad to addition pictures or to get more exposure for all of your work, click on the 'My gallery' link and copy and paste the site address into all of your ads. This way people can see all of your carvings. |
