Question How do you all market your carvings? The internet is not serving me well. Think I might be on the wrong site? Thanks for your advice. I love this message board! You all are so helpful. Allgods |

What type of carvings are you interested in selling?

I have sold a few at "festivals" on a couple of occasions. The first was about 15 or so years ago and not very successful. Alot of interest, but not many buyers. It was a small town festival in the spring (Dogwood Festival). Not much interest in buying, just looking. The second was last year (yeap - only twice) and I had much better results. It was a better venue with a large crowd of people coming just to buy gifts before Christmas. So, to sell - you need to go to the buyers and have something that they want. It may be best to specialize in one subject. I would imagine the internet as not being effective unless your name is well known and can draw attention by itself - or your product can be described specifically (as stated above). In other words, "Hand carved wooden santas" will draw much more viewers than "woodcarvings" - as an example. |

I would look at some specialty stores - for example - I am learning to carve some Celtic pieces to sell at an Irish gift shop - assuming I can complete them in time for St. Paddy's day of course - something along those lines might lead to more successs

I am a member of a local Craft fair here in Scotland, it helps a little. I also take some of my pieces to gallerys for them to display, if they sell they take a commision. Its not easy, but dont give up.
