Hello all. Is there an "in the round" sea turtle pattern out there anywhere? We saw some cute carvings while in Mexico and would like to take a stab at it myself. The side view is the most difficult. Thanks....

There is a nice pattern and step-by-step in this book: Amazon.com: Carving Nature: Wildlife Studies in Wood: Frank Fox-Wilson: Books |

Is it a sea turtle or a tortoise? I looked at the book on Amazon and could not tell which it was. |

I seem to remember a story that I use to tell the kids in my classes about an eagle that was brought up in a chicken coop and who thought that he was a chicken. He didn't know the difference even when he saw a real eagle! Can't you make sea turtle out of a turtle pattern? I've got a turtle pattern...

It is a turtle. If you look at the index for the book I believe it is on pages 86-102. The only listing in the book for tortoise is "tortoise shell"...and I don't know what that reference is for in the book. RussL. |

If you go to Google, enter "sea turtle", and then click on Images, there are a gazillion photos/drawings of sea turtles from all angles. You should be able to sketch out your own pattern from these... Claude |

Making my own is the best advise! I did go and find a ton of pictures and have adapted them into a hand drawn sketch. I will now attempt to put it on my computer so I can adjust it to make it perfect. I'll also be able to size and duplicate it later. Thanks to all for your replies. |
