Default sculpting or carving???

Here is my problem.
it would be interesting to know what I have to call myself on this board ?I have been called everything but a "Carver" Do I even fit in here?
1)I am only using Powertools because my hands gave up on me.
2)I do mostly abstracts
3) I do not paint I leave all my work natural.
4) there it is,
help me to identify
Alice

I do some of what you do, although with traditional tools, and I have been told that it is "stylized" carving. As for power tools vs. traditional, imho it doesn't really make much difference, somewhere along the line somebody someplace used power - to cut down the tree, cut the carving block, etc. Where do you draw the line? Beats me.

Carver or sculptor? Artist or hobbyist or craftsman? Is what I do fine art, wood craft or land fill? Words don't make me much difference because what Garfield calls me or my stuff might be very different from what Tansy does.
Do I fit in here? Gee, I hope so. I'm happy as a CRAWDAD here. I'm happy hacking at a chunk of wood.
I've seen your work Alice. I think you'd be welcome anywhere wood is the subject.

Yep, I agree with everyone else.....welcome and enjoy. If I were you, I'd call myself a sculptor who carves wood......or maybe a carver who sculpst in wood....or maybe a whittler who used power tools to sculpt....or maybe, aw heck, who cares? Nobody here does!

I agree with Archie, It dosen't matter. Just seeing what we can create is reward enough. I have to carve for a living, as I'm not able to do physical work, but it never ceases to be an enjoyable challenge. Call me anything, but late for breakfast. You do beautiful work, and it never occured to me about what you use to create . It is just amazing the things that people can do.

You can use your teeth if that gives you the effect that you want.....if you shape wood to express yourself, you belong here! Just my opinion.
