Default SCUBA Sculpting.......

This was given to me about four years ago by Eric Widitz. I tried it, it felt funny so I never used it again till this summer. I decided to try it again after carving all day on a dry pine stump that was real dusty and made me sick. The next day I pulled it out of its bag and have used it every day since. After getting used to it I feel naked carving without it. Carving with a saw creates wood dust, mold and mist of sap and oil that tend to be worse for us then other saw operators due to the above the waist work we do.
I have tried and used many different types of respirators. I own two full face powered units and still use them now and then when fine sanding, but for carving with a saw, this unit is the best I have found. It takes fresh air from behind you which is great when your saw is in a position that is blowing the exhaust in your face.
I used a 3-M fitted paper dust mask in Albuquerque carving redwood and was still coughing up dust all night. It is so nice to not have to clear that out of me everyday. I kid folks that I am scuba sculpting when they ask what I have on. I believe Eric still sells these and I think they are under $50.00
I love what I do. I can think of no other way that I would rather make a living then carving and I plan to do this for a long, long time.
