Default Screech Owl in hollow log

I am never quite sure where to post sometimes, this could be Birds & animals or found wood. Anyway...

Red Phase Eastern Screech Owl Mounted inside a hollow log (Maple).

The owl is done in cottonwood bark with a linseed oil finish. The eyes and beak are painted. The owl is life-size. In certain light situations it is difficult to tell what is in the log without getting real close. When someone steps in close enough to focus you always hear "OH WOW".

The opening was already there on the hollow log. I did have to alter it somewhat to get the owl where I wanted it. There was more "work" in the log than the Owl. This was an old, weathered Maple log and almost like busting rocks.

Nice job. I think that it's neat how you've reversed things by putting tree bark in side the tree.

John, Great work. The owl looks right at home. Thanks for sharing. I've got a chunk that needs a critter living in it. Great idea.
