Hi, What do you do with all the little odd size scraps left over afyer cutting out a rough out. Any ideas for using them? I hate to let them go to waste.

If they're large enough, I throw in the box for smaller carvings. If they are not, I will still keep some to test paint colors on. For example, I may mix up a green with a touch of brown to be a shadowed area near a tree trunk. To see how it looks on the basswood, I put a bit on a bit of scrap, dry with a hair dryer in about 15 seconds, then can easily see exactly how it looks. Then I can adjust with more green, more brown, a touch of black, maybe a touch of yellow, or whatever I think will work. Another test, and so forth.

I carve them. If the pieces are too small to hold in the hand, I'll use a hand vice...."waste not, want not" LOL

I don't carve much small stuff. I save the bits & pieces and once or twice a year I take them to a club meeting. I am always surprised at who takes what.

Lately,... I been using them for my toys for Santa, I am starting to get the hang on craving small. Sometimes I glue them up for a larger work. The rest go into the scrap large trash can, and I am saving them for firewood...the way prices are going up...gas is now $4.43 at its cheapest today....thank heaven I do not use super, or premium!,...they say it will hit five dollars this summer....and that means double the price of everything....I am going back to cave man means.....smile.

We had a sign in our cabinet shop that says "We don't have any scrap wood, only small pieces of unused wood".

I use them for small add ons for my larger pieces. One tonight became a book.
