Default scoop

I made this scoop out of the heartwood of a dead chinkapin tree we had to cut down. the sapwood was totally rotted and had wood ants and termites in it. The heart was still pretty darn sound though. I saved a few pieces from the fire wood pile to clean up andcarve into presents.I started the scoop about amonth or so ago for my daughters birthday a couple of weeks ago. i finally finished it 2 days ago and gave it to her along with the little woodspirit with green leaves I did a while back. The plate it is on is a small correlleware saucer. the scoop holds about 1\2 a cup of whatever.I finished it with smart balance cooking oil. The oil hadn't soaked in all the waywhen I took the picture, plus it's blurry. i carved it and sanded it almost totally by hand. Next time I will use mainly power.LOL I'm planning on doing more of these for Christmas presents that my family will probably get some time next year at the rate I go! Easter maybe?! Critiques are fine and welcome.

Hi Sharon, that's a really nice scoop. It's something I need to do for the cat food, only with a longer handle for me. Nice.

Way to go Sharon, I think that scoop of yours is pretty spiffy. Do you have a special tool that you use to hollow it out?

thanks you guys for the nice comments.Cliff, I mainly used a gouge from a cheap set of carving tools to hollow it out. I used my dremel a little, but didn't really have the right bits for it, so ended up going back to the gouge.

Wow Keoma, you must like strooong coffee if you need a 1/2 cup scoop hahaha.

Sharon, I really like the scoop. It reminds of the one in my Grandmothers flour bin.
