I use them for detail and clean-up on every carving (blades 11 & 12 in holder #3, & 22 in holder #4) and buy the blades in a box of 100 but the shipping is way to much where I get them.
The blades do break easy and not to good for carving but are great for detail and cleaning fuzzies.

I use the scalpel blades sold by Lee Valley. I grind the shanks down to fit an X-acto handle. These things are strong, sharp and stand straight to attention when stropped. I should mention for details only.

Gee I could get mine for free, since my son is a doctor....but nah, they probably still have lots of blood on 'em. So much for that idea.

Rick, They are shown as replacement blades for the Veritas carvers knife (05K73.01) The spear blade is part #05K72.02, curved 05K72.03 and classic 05K72.04. The blades aren't really large, about 1-1/2 long x 1/4" wide. Hope this helps out. Best I can do ,Providing a link is beyond me at the moment.

I posted a thread some time ago labled surgical scalpels as detail knives. You may find it helpful. Look for it under the search function.
