Default Who says you can't

carve in hospital?
G'day All,
I'm getting that message saying I haven't been posting for a while, so thought I'd best explain myself. Two weeks ago I woke at around 6:00 am with an extremely painful Angina attack, an hour later I was in hospital and an Angiogram showed that one artery was 99% blocked, unfortunately I then had to wait to be transfered to Melbourne to have a Stent installed which was done a week ago today. I asked my son to bring me my small kit box of knives where I always keep a couple of small sticks for emergency <grin> so I spent some of my time doing the attached carvings (painted them at homelater) also carved my first ever golf ball..
The 3 larger people are 1 1/8" and 1 1/4" high, and the group of small folk are only 3/4" high. Interesting point......I always say, and have seen it said often here, that carving is very therapeutic...........well, one afternoon a male nurse interrupted my carving to check my blood pressure, he did so muttering to himself all the while, then went to get a manual unit and did the test again, I asked the reason and was told that my pressure was down several points against the earlier readings, not dangerous but puzzling, as my pulse rate was just as it should be. Over the next couple of days he came to believe that my carving was the cause...........Maybe they should teach carving to all cardio patients??????????
Anyway I am home now and feeling fine having made new friends among the staff and my fellow patients who were all interested to see what I was doing. Thanks for letting me ramble and I hope you get some fun out of these little folk.
Regards to All
John

Glad you are better, and glad that the carving helped you pass the time..thats the worst part about being in hospital..too much time to think bad thoughts about what might happen...any happy time is a great benefit. Welcome back.

Hi John,
Welcome back!!! Great to hear that you got to the hospital in time and that you're doing fine. You'll be back to "normal" before you know it and more than likely feeling better than you have for a long time. Like all your little carvings and top notch paint jobs. Great to have you back and look forward to seeing more of your creations.
Dan

Hi John, wish I had known sooner, I would have paid you a visit in the ole hospital. Great little carvings and yes, I can well believe the drop in blood pressure while carving. I can almost feel any worries melting away while I am carving. Glad to hear you are doing okay mate, Joe.

Thanks Forrest,
with all your own problems, I really appreciate your taking time to look at my work and commenting so nicely, they were fun to do and any chips were too small to get me in trouble with housekeeping lol.

Slow Mover,
appreciate your nice comments, they're part of what makes this a great little community.

Thanks Dan,
I'm glad to be back and am already feeling better, glad you enjoyed my little folk.

Dave,
thanks for your kind words and thoughts.

G'day Joe,
would have been great to actually meet, still, maybe one day huh?....and yes, carving seems to be a great stress relief. By the way, had a quick look at "Weedy" he's a real beaut!!

Thanks All
John

Glad to see that your out of the hospital and recovering well; and that your wood carving helped lower your blood pressure...doesn't surprise me at all! How long did you say you were in the hospital, with all those great little guys...? Ha! Again, good to hear your better and wish you continued great health and safe carving!
