Default Sauder Village Carving show this weekend.

Has anyone been to this show? I'm planning on going, but it's one that I haven't attended before. Comments; suggestions? Mike

Sauder Village is in Archbold, OH, which is about 25 miles east of the Ohio/Indiana line, just south of the Ohio turnpike. I-80/I-90. Mike

Mike,
Some gentlemen from my area were talking it up recently but I have not attended. Sounded interesting.

All my friends from the Dayton area say it's a great show. I wish I could go but Ohio is too far to drive to twice in the same month.

I'll give it a try and report back with some photos. I made my own WCI message board name badge; maybe someone will say hi. Mike

I got to the Sauder Village show Saturday morning and it's a fine show. It's not a big show, but the quality is excellent. There were some familiar carvers, such as Stadtlander and Kunz; they always have terrific displays. There weren't as many caricature carvers as I see in most shows; probably more wildlife/wildfowl carvers that I usually see. I asked several how many shows they exhibit in and most have cut back to just a few good ones. The crowd grew quickly and I was ready to beat a retreat after two hours. I got to meet Don Mertz and Roger Strautman (CarverRog). They're both great carvers, very friendly, and very helpful. The vendors were excellent so I got a couple of things I "needed". I bought some good looking basswood, butternut, and buckeye. I'm grabbing all of the butternut I see, and now that my son is a freshman at Ohio State, I need to carve some Buckeye stuff out of buckeye wood. The wood vendor is associated with Stadtlander and had a notice he won't be back to that show in the future, but he will still sell mail order. Mike

Great update Mike. I've had the pleasure of carving with Bob and I look forward to meeting Roger and Don in Dayton. Glad to hear you had a good time!
