Default Santa Carving from He.....

I just posted about teaching and fixing carving mistakes. I got into this thing a few years ago that once I start a carving Im going to finish it no matter what. Well this one should have been thrown in the firewood pile early on.
The hood broke off twice, hence the bald head sticking out. The sides of the hood had to be moved back and sideburns carved to make up for it. I cut the nose off three times and kept having to move the face back. Left side of the moustache split. The beard turned out thinner than I like And one side of this piece of wood was hard as a rock. Well I finally got him done not liking him at all. I brought him in from the carving shop and asked Anna if he was worth painting and she fell in love with him, says he's differnt from what I usually do.

I like him too, isn't it funny how some of our worse mistakes (taking off too much wood or a piece breaking off) turn out to be some of our best pieces! Callynne

Nothing wrong with him Goody. Better keep Anna around. She has a good eye for outstanding carvings.

Have to agree the carvings I throw in the burn pile I always pick back out and re-do them every time they turn out to be the carvings that everyone wants. I like the carving as well nothing wrong with that. It is only you know the mistakes you made nobody else.

I think he's great - although I do end up throwing some into the fireplace from time to time, mistakes can be good for us - they build character. Just refer to them as "design changes" rather than mistakes.
