I was looking for your elk too! Oh well. It was fun. I bought a nice set of gouges. I'll upload some pictures later.

I will try to explain what happened at the SanJacinto Show. I took Nancy's Elk which was beautiful and stood in line to enter it in the competition. I filled out the paperwork and when I got up to the check in table I told them I was entering the peice for a friend and I said her name. They looked on there lists and could'nt find her name or a member number. I told them that she had been a member and they said that if she's not on the member list that she could'nt have the peice entered because you had to be a member to enter. Well, I asked if I could enter the peice under my member number they said no. Needless to say my face was getting pretty red with frustration about this time. I asked why that rule was'nt published in large writing or why they even had the rule in the first place. I recieved no reply, so now I look like a fool because I'm the one that offered to do this and didn't know the rules. I was heart broke because I knew that Nancy would've won something for such an awesome carving. Later, on Sunday I cornered the Vice President of the Guild and told him what happened. I doubt that anything will be changed. I then had to call Nancy and tell her the news which I wasn't looking forward to. So, Nancy I'll be sending you your awesome Elk on me, it will cost you nothing. I'm just so sorry that something like this has happened.

Okay, I don't want to tie up the board with all this but wanted to acknowledge Jeffs post here. I did write to him privately that it is I who should have known the rules and I who should have figured out if my membership was still good. He WILL NOT /BETTER NOT send it back to me on him. He was trying to help and it all was just a mistake on my part. I was just so thrilled that he was willing to do that for me that i didn't think of all these other things first before shipping it out.

So for the umpteenth time
Thank you Jeff

I really didn't get to see alot of the show as I had to man my table and promote my seminars. I had a really good response and I also won the people's choice award for the Redtail on the glove. There were quite a few of the public going through the show and I had the pleasure of meeting some of them. A carved box won best of show.

Where was the competition? A different room? I never did see anything that looked like a competition, other than the People's Choice forms...

All the judging took place in a room off of the main display room. This year there computer crashed so they had to do all the point calculations by hand which took ten times longer. Once the judging was finished all the 1st place winners were brought out and the best od show was announced. I believe a lady that carved a box won best of show.
