| | San Jacinto show My teeth or where they used to be hurt today but thanks to Falconer's kind offer I have a bright spot in my life, something to be excited about. He offered to enter my Elk in the San Jacinto show if I would ship it to him. I took him up up on it. He got it in good shape and called me this morning with incredibly high praise!!!! I certainly take that as a compliment coming from him as he is an incredible carver. That alone puts a notch in my mental belt . So judging is tomorrow and he said he will let me know how it goes. for the hundredth time Falconer!

I think it was only a couple of bucks. Under $5 anyway. I think Be sure to look up Falconer (a member here)while there. He is a bird carver, won't be showing but will have a table. Real name is Jeff Wardwell.

I didn't see your elk there - but I was there right at 0900 and might have missed it. The sow was interesting. No competition for ribbons - everyone who paid their $2.00 to come in was given a piece of paper to vote for a "People's Choice", but that was it. Most of the carvers were there to sell carvings.
Below are some photos I took - just some stuff that appealed to me as I walked by...
The first two photos are just general shots of the event. Quite a few carvers there. The Celtic carving was probably 18 inches tall. The little surfer was carved from piece of burl and it's hard to see, but he's standing on a surboard that merges into the wave behind him which in turns merges into the rest of the burl. The redtailed hawk was very realistic (I thought), and is perched on a carved glove. The lighter colored "suede" leather actually looked like suede.

| | Re: San Jacinto show More Photos from San Jacinto
The first is a wood burning of Geronimo. Next is one that I really liked - the cop having his donut, even has a bit of sugar on his lip. The next is a relative closeup of the details on 4 canes. The santa I thought was cute. The rose had much more depth to the carving than is evident from the photo - very well done. |

| | Re: San Jacinto show Last of the San Jacinto plotos.
Sorry about the blurriness of the celtic knot - I wasn't able to hold the camera all that still. The middle photo shows a carver working on a carved basket, with a couple of his pieces in the background. The final photo is one of his carved baskets, done in butternut.

| | Re: San Jacinto show Claude, ho-hum I wondered why I hadn't heard from Jeff after the judging yesterday. well it seems that it wasn't an "open" show but for CCG members only. I still wonder about that and the fact that I think my membership is still good and I believe you can be a member without living in California, but I have to find my guidelines to be sure of that. Anyway, they wouldn't allow my Elk to be entered because they said I was no longer a member. Will be about $80 shipping paid when it gets shipped back to me, all for nothing. No biggy I guess but was disappointed to hear all that. I believe the photo of the falcon on the glove is Falconer's (Jeff). Thanks for the photos!
