Default What's everyone working on?

Well folks....it's winter, it's cold outside, so carving is a good alternative....what's everyone working on? Course carving is always a good alternative! Anyone trying something different for a change?

Bob

Kind of busy doing other things, like fishing and golf, but as time permits, am whittling a bride and groom for and upcoming wedding, also need to finish my hill billy fisherman, have a couple of sticks that need carving laying around, and really should spend more time with the wife.

Hey Bob I am just starting a new Santa that I'm kinda excited about. It's my own design and pattern right from the get go. I usually start with someone else's pattern but this time it's all my own. oldbearx2

I'm working on staying warm! Actually - it's more like trying to get warm.

I have a show coming up in a few weeks in Charlotte NC. I have a few things ready - my ususal caricature miniatures - and a couple of other caricature carvings (bust and single figure).

The "best" piece was my first real attempt at carving a larger single figure from a piece of wood that really involved two parts..... boy that was hard to explain. I carved a cowboy sitting on a stool from one piece of wood. I like it. To be noticed it should have been bigger, but I like it. I'll post a picture soon. I have done this a few times with miniatures.

I want to do a natural carving of an animal...maybe a caricature animal. It should be something small. I'll work on it this weekend.

I am still working on a Sumac girl figur ( this is the Sumac I run into trouble with) and a spalted Birch Joggler ( I don;t know what to call it ) I can' t get into the workshop it is toooo cold it uses more wood than what I get out on heat so I am confined into a corner of the house.

...taxes! (installing the software...)

...I'm about halfway through Marv's face teaching. I am doing to busts with different facial expressions. Should hopefully finish these two soon and then will start designs for a couple of caricatures ideas I've come up with.

Question Re: What's everyone working on?

Guess I'm not the only one trying to stay warm. Plowing snow and carrying in wood for the two wood stoves. The shop takes about 1 1/2 hrs to heat up comfortably. I'm working on a Great Horned Owl. Its intimidating because of the feather patterns that will have to be painted. But I have good reference. Cousin Dave might invite us all to visit him in the Arizona desert, bet he dosen't have to carry in wood or plow either.

I'm currently working on being patient for my just ordered Moor chip carving knife to arrive. After that I'll have fun making my first chips.
