Default Revisited the Bear cane, finetuned.

Well folks, today was a first! I had finished my Polar Bear cane last week and test drove it over the week-end, and had to take it back into the shop and trim the shaft down considerably. I found the weight just too much, and it ended up causing pain in the shoulder and neck. Trimmed a full 1/4" off the diamater and what a difference it makes. It may not sound like much weight, but that little bit matters. The length and fit is fine, just the shaft is Mahogany and one of the harder Mahoganys, so that weight may make all the difference. I can notice the heft is lighter already and balance improved as the head is Basswood.

It sure has been a "stopper" while we were out shopping, at one point I had six kids around me firing questions left, right and center. Almost lost it too, one lad wanted to take it to show his wife, but I "suggested" that I would wait there, with the cane while he brought her!! I love the "double-take" when folks first notice it. Priceless!

Bob

Glad that you got 'em just right and it's amazing how much better that we become at perfecting every aspect of a project as the years of carving experience stack up on us! Sometimes I've had a carving sit there for years until it finally occurs to me just what it needs.

And that's when you get all those "streching" necks upon your cane when you take it out for a stroll. That's when it's worth it all!!

That is indeed a unique cane.

I can see why it would turn heads - its very eye catching. I'm procrastinating getting one done for my mother. For one thing, I don't know where to start. She wants one for a conversation piece more than a support for her hip. If I do get around to it, I want it to be light yet sturdy. I'll keep your comments in mind regarding the weight of the cane.

Still looks great Bob. Yep, those canes do draw people in a conversation.

Had the Eaglehead cane finish and was showing it to a friend who had a friend with him. He ask what I got for something like that and I told him. Pulled out his wallet and paid me for it.

Hope he like the name of Ken on it for sure, casue it is his'ns now!!

Really, did not have a name on it and he loved the flag. Didn't get a finished picture but it was in the WIP when I was working on it.

No matter, Started another one for me with an Eagle head and plan to carve another flag in it also but different than the one I just sold.

Anyways, The little bride wanted me to take her out for a nice meal since I got paid. sooooooo,I did.
Told her she could have anything on the McDonalds $1.00 menu.
Wonder why she got so mad?????????????
Lucklly, she didn't have her "Dang Club" with her!

That's my story and I am sticking to it!
