Default RENEGADE WOODCARVERS ROUNDUP - Wednesday

Wednesday was my day with Gary Falin. Gary is the great guy to hang and carve with. You wouldn't expect this big burly country boy could carve so delicately as he does. Aside from being one of the best caricature carvers around, he a wonderful instructor. He explains each tool he uses and why he makes the cuts where he does. His great sense of humor is icing on the cake (or donut in his case ).

Wednesday night was the carving competition. Participants had 1 1/2 hours to carve something related to basketball (March Madness). The three winners received carving blanks & instruction photos. The last photo is how far I got on my Falin Santa rough-out.

Thanks Ken, Gary to me is one of the best at expression and provides an excellent example of eye carving all the while imparting his "special" brand of humor.

Ken,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. The pictures are just great. Just so you know, I got the burly country boy part down pretty good, now all I got to do is work on the carving part. You were very fortunate to be able to be in the presence of these great carvers. I love all of their works. I'm sitting here pretty green with envy right now.

Hey Ken, thanks for all the pics you have shown from ur trip. I see lots of great carvings and well done photography. Those r all great instructors. Most have videos, which I have and learned a lot from watching.
