If you say it is soft, it is nothing like the Red Gum in Oz. Beautiful colour but hard, hard, hard! Carved my first piece in Red Gum. Mostly used for fire places here. Yikes!!

Never carved it, have seen it run to mouldings- window & door casings, baseboard
