Default Red Cedar Indian Face

I'm more comfortable doing woodspirits, but thought I'd give an Indian face an attempt. The mark under his right eye is a result of what I believe was a developing branch within the red cedar meat of the wood. Finish is a clear satin spray.

That Red Cedar makes for some beautifull carvings. You subject is also great as I enjoy the Indian carvings and the mountain men ones also. Great looking and the red under the eyes sets the piece off.

Thanks for shareing.

Excellent Indian and an excellent line. In my attempt to motivate wanna-be woodcarving students I always emphasize: (1) Carve something every single day even when you don't feel like it and to, (2) find opportunities to take yourself out of your comfort zone. Repetition, then forcing yourself to stretch the learning curve has been a key to improving my woodcarving skill over the years and hopefully by studying your excellent eyes I will take myself out of my own comfort zone again during the next few days!

This one is even better than the woodspirit and I thought it was great! The spot under the eye is a branch. You will find those spots in almost all the red cedar you work on. Now I have to get out of my comfort zone and do something without a beard on it. Whittler
