| | Red Beard The Fur Trader 'Red Beard' is based on the Mark Gargac Santa. I'm really enjoying creating these little carvings. This one is basswood 8 1/2" Tall by 3" across at the widest point.
I used acrylic paints by DecoArt/Americana blending various colors to get what you see. I like this brand because it has good coverage and is easy to blend with other colors. I still have to stain the back and apply a matt varnish. I'm thinking about making this a wall piece. We have a guest room that is decorated in cowboy style and a series of these might be nice.
As always I appreciate your thoughts and comments for improvement.
Best,
Kathy |

| | Re: Red Beard The Fur Trader Hey Kathy, I had a run of four carvings based on Mark's woodspirit design. They were all carved in basswood and made great wall hangings. Yours turned out very well. Those are strong colors and really makes him stand out - well done.

| | Re: Red Beard The Fur Trader Thank you, Gene & Patrick for stopping by. Gene, I really enjoyed painting this one and glad you could see the mountain man in him. Patrick, Marks CD's, Tutorials are so well done it makes one feel they can actually carve this style. The trick will be to still continue carving this style, but make it my own. The class I took with Mark at Creede, CO., was great....Mark is a wonderful teacher.
Thanks Again guys,
Kathy |

| | Re: Red Beard The Fur Trader Hi Kathy,You keep improving on every piece in leaps and bounds. When you get the Matt finish on it , the colors will jump out and realy finish the piece off. Nice . Merle |

| | Re: Red Beard The Fur Trader As usual, another real nice piece by Mottles...lol. I love the way you paint your carvings, Kathy. This one is definitely a mountain man, alright...nice job on the carving and painting both! Bonnie | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
