Default Recycle the Christmas tree

Good morning Gang,
As you probably know I have a great fondness for found wood. I have been driving around lately and came up with an idea that obviously no one else has thought of. This time of year the snow is just about all gone and there outside a lot of the house's are the disgarded Christmas tree's waiting for the shredder truck to come and multch them up. I decided yesterday to stop at the local hardware store pick up a small hand pruning saw and drove the around and cut the butt ends off of all the Christmas tree's I could find. I am going to dry them a little and shave the bark off and I will have some wonderful carving wood. It only took me about 30 minutes and I had a dozen or so in the back of the truck. If nothing else the back of my truck smells wonderful. I just thought it was a good idea and one that I would share with you. It seems a shame to see all of those tree's just go to waste.
Colin

Default I CRe: Recycle the Christmas tree

Hi Colin I've saved some trunks for canes, also cross cut where several limbs start at the pith. It forms a star pattern.Possibly buttons, knobs or pulls? Ron A.

Christmas trees are dump in our lake for habitats for fish. Makes great cover for them. None around this time of the year. Well that is in SEKansas. But a great Idea for sure.

I read somewhere where some people take their xmas tree and section them after xmas and carve something for their kids each year, has become a tradition...neat idea as well.

Hi Colin,
Joyce Anderson from the Knot Hole in Pleasant Hill, MO has a customer that brings her Christmas tree trunk in at the end of summer (following Christmas) and has Joyce carve a matching Christmas item for each of her children...5-6 things if I remember right. Last year she carved little evergreen type trees that were leaning. Some years it's santas, snowmen, animals, etc. It makes a great keepsake with some extra added memories for everyone...and takes care of what to get them for Christmas!

Other than dealing with the pitch, it would be a neat idea.
