Hello everyone,
I joined the forum a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed reading and sharing thoughts with everyone. I have really enjoyed being able to see some of the work that has been posted. I am going to attempt to share some of my carvings with you now. I couldn't figure out what forum to use so I just stayed with in the welcome members. Hope the pictures get attached ok and that you enjoy them. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark

Tom, Joy, Curt, Claude, and Phyllis

Thanks so much for taking the time to view my carvings and to post your comments they were all very kind. I was a little apprehensive about posting my carvings at first, I am self taught for the most part other than reading some books and viewing pictures here and there, so when I ask the following questions don't think too badly of my lack of knowledge.

Joy, I'm glad you like my style, but do you know what if any particular style it is. I have compared it to some I have seen on the site but not sure exactly which one to call it. I thought originally it was flat plane because I use only a knife and a v-tool for most of it, with no sanding.

Curt,
What do you mean by big cuts? I don't recall hearing that term before.

Claude,
I wasn't sure how many would pick up on the Mac. This piece is for a graphic designer friend. Just so you know my favorite thing on TV is the PC/Mac commercials. I'm a PC guy, but my wife swears by her Macs. I also want to say thanks once again for hooking me up with the link to the paper manicans, my mind has been racing with a way to use them in one of my next carvings. Would have probably been a big help with the mac guy.

Thanks again everyone!

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark

Oscar,
Thanks for your kind words. Glad you liked them. The crazy thing about these computers is that they got us all now.

sorry,
I forgot the following information.

"Groucho stands about 10" tall, the over all diameter is 8".
Computer Guy is about 8" tall, the over all diameter is 8".

Everything is made out of bass wood except for the base which is an old piece of pine shelving that was stained with a gloss wood stain to bring out the deatil of the wood. I then used a small v-tool to carve the detail of the hard wood floor and used a small 1/8" punch to create the pegs in the floor. I then painted the seams and pegs with a black wash to give them an aged look. Don't know if any of you have ever tried this but it gives a unique look, just stumbled onto it by accident. The computer has the notch cut out of it so the guy who is getting it can place his business cards in it.

I will try to remember to add this stuff in future posts and give shorter detail descriptions.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark
