Default Recent Work

Just so you all don't think I've given up carving here are some of my more recent carvings. I have several pieces in the works and some of these are parts of other larger projects.

Small Turtle is made from basswood and might be 1.5 x 1.5 x 1" in total size. I managed to cut off both a front and back leg during carving but they glued back in place fairly well.

The relief set are done from basswood and are 4 x 4 x 1/4 ". They are part of a larger project where I am carving a series of these blocks and will mount them in a picture frame.

The last is my first piece of butternut. I found it quite a bit harder than basswood but I absolutely love the grain and colour of the wood. I will be buying more butternut when I place my next online order for wood. The spoon is 12" long and is 2.5" at the widest part of the heart.

I was sure you hadn't given up carving....I just thought you had given us up..LOL

Nice pieces. Are you going to paint the squares? That is a wonderful spoon. I haven't tried butternut, but it sounds like I need to.

Nice work kitaye, that spoon turned out great I like the twist. Ya should try butternut Joy it is mainly all I carve, but I seem to have an endless supply at least untill all the trees are gone from butternut canker and the walnut bores.

Never in a million years. I'm on this site at least 4 times a day. If nothing else I get tons of ideas and advice by reading all the responses from the more knowledgable folks around here.

As for painting the squares...I haven't made up my mind yet. PArt of me says yes and another part says leave it natural.

All very nice carvings but that butternut spoon really catches my eye. I have never carved that type of wood before. Must get myself a piece.
