Default RainBow Trout carved in drift wood

This RainBow trout is relief carved and painted in drift wood,its 2 1/2 X 11 inches. The 1st pict here is the drift wood before I cleaned it up. Some times it changes its shape while Im sanding it.{some of the old wood breaks off}

Some of the pictures are not finished,I applied a clear satin finish on it last night,fish need a little shine,gives them a wet look. I attacted a small block of wood behind it where it would sit up correctly.

I enjoy carving smaller items but will be working on larger ones now the weather is cooling off some,where I can work outside.

As always your thoughts or comments are more than welcome.

Tn~

That is a beautiful relief carving and your use of the driftwood ... water worn edges and smooth outline ... is perfect.

Really great job. Hard to believe what you ended up with considering the pc of wood you started on. Looks terrific!

Tn,
I don't know how you do it, but you keep making them better and better.
The water looks so watery, and the fish is such great colors. I like the piece of wood you used and seeing it before you carved it shows just how much imagination you have. I didn't see that fish in there.

I try to leave some of the wooden edges which creates a frame around this trout plus people can see what type of wood its carved out of.

Im gald you liked this Rainbow Trout Susan! Thks for your kind comment.

This wasnt that hard seeing I could least see some grains in this drift wood. Im working on a pc of burned walnut,carving a turkey in it. The wood was totally black.

Im glad you liked this little carving...thks" Greg

At times I let the old wood onces its been re worked,cleaned,sanded,etc. It kinda dictates what I think would look good in it is how I come up with certain things that I carve. Course too, I needed a RainBow Trout to go along with the Brown Trout & Bass. Im glad you enjoyed this carving Thor.

Thks again, Tn~
