Default The Rainbow Trout

Well I finally finished this rain bow trout thats carved in a 3 inch branch of sour wood disc, course the fish, roots and rocks are smaller relief carved.

I knew like my other smaller carvinghs which have been posted, that this trout was carved in a odd shape piece of the wood and would require a dfferent type of base besides the round ones.

I have some smaller pieces of drift wood and I used a cedar one for the trouts base. But then it still needed something to complete this carving so I painted a little bream hook and make the fly itself from some cotton off a cotton ball. I could have made a really nice looking fly like the ones they used around here but I wanted a old antq look to this one thats in front of the trout.
Now all I have to do is apply a semi-coat on the outsides of the carvings and the bases of all the ones I've carved.

Might try to get some other type of carvings in for I know next wk and a few days of the 3rd wk,I need some painted items that I do besides my carvings.

Hope you enjoy this trout and thanks for your respones to all of my branch carvings.

Your thoughts or comments are always welcome. Forrest

Hey Forest,

Can you send me a pm and tell me your carving secret. Everytime I turn around there's another one of your nice carvings. Whisper it in my ear.

Forrest,
You will have to excuse my ignorance but I grew up in a treeless area of Kansas and thought telephone poles were trees until I was nearly nine or ten. What is sour wood?
