Default question regarding patterns

just checking for correct protocol ,

for carvers looking for patterns - one of my books has the full size templates and to cut the patterns and glue to plywood for permanent patterns, but it does not say to "copy with permission only" or anything along that line

so when someone requests a pattern is it okay to scan and send

laine,

The simple answer is "no." You bought the book; you can use the patterns in the book to make plywood patterns (or posterboard, etc.) for yourself. You can not give, or sell, the pattern to anyone else unless it specifically authorizes you to do so. Copyright laws...

Wood Carving Illustrated magazine, for example, says: "Note to Professional Copy Services - The publisher grants you permission to make up to ten copies for any purchaser of this magazine who states the copies are for personal use." Note that no permission is given to sell or give away the patterns. If I wanted to make copies of a pattern from the magazine to use in a class I was teaching, I'd have to get written permission from the publisher.
