Default Question On Branson Area....

My wife is headed to Branson in a couple weeks for her and the mother-in-laws shop-a-thon weekend. They meet other relatives and they have a big time of it. All girls. She told me that they will be there friday all by themselves and wanted to see what she could find me woodcarving related. I think they will be going to Silver Dollar City as well. So can any of you tell me what is there for woodcarving tools and supplys, carving shops etc. ... even shops where you can purchase carvings by other carvers ( I would like to add to my collection). Links if you have them would be great! Thank you,

Corey

Hi Corey

Well they won't take you along....That is too bad.... I saw a few things when I was down there in May 2008.

1. Silver Dollar City has a large carving shop with carvers doing some carving on site and lots of carvings for sale, small and large. I am thinking it might be called Valley Woodcarving, but might be wrong. Tools and books and wood for sale. Definitely worth the look see....

2. Grande Village has Engler woodcarving....Lots of very nice carvings and some tools and books, fun place to look around. Right on the main street in Branson.

3. Engler Block a little further East on North side of the road, a small mall with various stores and has some carving in there and making of musical instruments (dulcimers etc) although I have never seen them in action when I was there.

4. Ha....don't know the name, a Larger Mall on Northeast area of town has lots of different types of crafts including woodcarvings and also has a woodcarving demo area. Sorry I can't think of the name of it. Lots of stuff to look at.

I am sure others might be able to help you out with some other places to look at and I might even find some new places.

When you heading to Branson...??

Bob and I had the privilege of visiting the Branson area a few years back when we were in town for a scroll saw show. We did a short article in issue #32. A few helpful links:

Silver Dollar City Branson MO: Family Adventures Theme Park

www.peterenglerdesigns.com (NOT to be missed!)... This website seems to invalid, but I couldn't find a good one... Sorry!

Engler Block Shopping* Mall..Restaurants, Demonstrating Arts, Collectibles, Christmas, Clothing, Jewelry, Housewares,

and a general one:

Branson Tourism Center

After all that shopping a short drive south from Branson to Big Cedar Lodge for lunch will cap off a visit to Branson very nicely.

the answer to #4 in the first post is the branson mill mall-- a large market place with individual booths (large 15X15) and there are several wood carvers there-it is located on north grenta rd.-- engler's shop in grand village is a must see and if u get to SDC before early nov-- the fall festival is going on and i know that several carvers will have outside booths there ( for sure John Engler-- if u see him-- tell him chuck said hi) and englers block may have something going on. there is also a carving club that meets at kimberling city on the 3rd thurs of the month--if interested do a google search for ozark mountain wood carvers-- and the info is there. this is a great time of the yr to visit-- have a great time-- if on the trip in or out- u can go up 65 highway - about 100 miles north of springfield john maxwell has a shop at cole camp missouri- great guy and a nice shop in small german town.

Thanks for all the info guys. Definitely going to have to make a trip there but this time it's all women only... 12 of them.. No thank you.

Been to SDC several times and the area but didn't have any interest in carving then. Lynne, stayed at the lodges there on a fishing trip.. cool place!

I understand that at the Engler shop that many carvers works are for sale there. Does anyone know what caricature carvers works are on display for sale and what a typical carving might cost or what I should expect to pay for like a 6 inch caricature or something like that?
