Thanks Dan, Al,
What are the "rules"/thoughts on downloading pictures on google, Bing and doing a carving from them? Legal, ethical? Thanks
David

Some pics are copyrighted. Most that are copyrighted are noted as such and some are configured so you can't download. My understanding is that photos from sites such as I linked to can be downloaded for your personal use, but I would think it unethical to market any for monetary gain. Work you develop from those photos (carvings, paintings, etc) become yours and can be sold.

If you check the site the photos come from, there may be warnings or permission...some do some don't.

Clear as mud, huh?

Dave, I took that plan of the plane off, not because I thought of any copyright problem but because of the SIZE of the durn thing.

You can get that pic from the linked site.

Haha, that plan was huge, thanks Al, I think that explains it well enough. I visited my uncle recently in Lake Havasu Az., he is a bush pilot/mechanic in Alaska who owns a 1950 Piper L21, I thought it might be nice to carve him one for letting me stay at his house there.

Buy a plastic model kit and copy it????

I have downloaded plane "plans" from somewhere, don't even have any idea what the search parameters were....lot of old WWII birds, I am sure you can find some kind of drawings with enough specs to create something very close.....start scratching.....
